It isn't always easy!

We realize that hiring someone to develop and design a website is not a simple task. You don't always know what you want! That is why we walk you through it every step of the way. We will help you stand out from the crowd.

Phase One: Information Gathering

The first step in designing a successful web site is to gather information. Many things need to be taken into consideration when we design the look and feel of your site, so we first ask a lot of questions to help us understand your business and your needs in a web site.

Certain aspects to consider are:

  • Purpose
"well you gota have a reason, don't you?"
What do you want to provide your end-user, is it information, promote a service, sell a product… ?
  • Goals
Like in life you need to set goals...
What do you hope to accomplish by building this web site? Two of the most common goals are either to make money or share information.
  • Target Audience
We know that you already know this one, but we have to ask!
Is there a specific group of people that will help you reach your goals? It is helpful to picture the “ideal” person you want to visit your web site. Consider their age, sex or interests - this will later help us determine the best design style for your site.
  • Content
Crucial part! What's in the box?
What kind of information will the target audience be looking for on your site? Are they looking for specific information, a particular product or service, online ordering…?

Phase Two: Planning

Dissecting the information from phase one, we put together a plan for your web site. Here we develop a road map - a list of all main topic areas of the site, as well as, if needed, sub-topics. This gives both parties (that's Zeno Designs and you!) a guide as to what content will be on the site, and is essential to developing a consistent, easy to understand navigational system. The website planning stage is also when decisions are made as to what technologies will be implemented (interactive forms, ajax, php, flash, eCommerce, ect...).

Phase Three: Design

Digesting time!
Drawing from phases 1 and 2, we establish the look and feel of the site.  One of the key factors taken into consideration here is your chosen target audience. A site aimed at retirees, for example, will look much different than one meant for a kindergarten or a magazine publisher. To help strengthen your company image and help your customers identify you, this where we incorporate all aspects of your corporate identity elements such as your logo, colors and typography to the website.

Once we’ve designed a prototype, you are given access to our test servers, this is a secure area of our website and which is where you can see your own baby take shape and grow.  At this stage, you will have the opportunity to express some of your likes and dislikes on the general site's design.

Even more than any other phases, this is where communication is crucial to ensure that the final web site will match-up with your vision.

Hand-in-hand or skype-to-skype, we work together exchanging ideas, making adjustments, pulling our hair out (well it's sometimes true!), until we arrive at the final design for the site. Then the fun can begin…

Phase Four: Development

This is where the real fun starts for us. We take all of the individual graphic elements from the prototype and use them to create the actual, functional site. We also take your content and distribute it throughout the site, in the appropriate areas.

Elements such as javascript rollovers, interactive forms, or eCommerce are implemented and made functional during this phase, as well. This entire time, you will continue to be able to view your site in the Client Studio, and suggest any additional changes or corrections you would like to have done.

Phase Five: Testing and Delivery

The home stretch! We iron out the final details and test your web site. We test things such as the complete functionality of forms or other scripts, we test for last minute compatibility issues (different web browsers: Firefox, Safari, IE 8, Google Chrome etc...), ensuring that the site will be optimized to be viewed properly in the most recent browser versions.

Once we receive your final approval, it is time to deliver the site. We migrate your superbly designed website from our test servers onto your own server using FTP (File Transfer Protocol) software. Here we quickly test again to make sure that all files have been uploaded correctly, and that the site continues to be fully functional. This marks the official launch of your site, as it is now viewable to the public.

Phase Six: Maintenance

And we suppose that you thought it was all over! The development of your web site is not necessarily over, though. One way to bring repeat visitors to your site is to regularly update the site with new content or products. We will be more than happy to continue working together with you to update the information on your website. We offer maintenance packages at reduced rates, based on how often you anticipate making changes or additions to your site.
